HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE

Intervention Area

The KSRTC Bus stand was one of the first structures to come up in Ernakulam by KSRTC. The station has been serving passengers as early as the 1950s.

Located at the heart of the city, the over 4-acre station employs over 700 people and sees a daily footfall in tens of thousands.

Before Intervention

BEHIND THE SCENES

Concept Note & Process

This intervention aims to welcome the commuters and viewers b/w the traditions and the future of Kerala.

The old woman embodies her local traditions and wisdom carrying the fruits of the generous soil & protecting it in her arms. The young girl represents the future that she is going towards with a stern and serene gaze. Her school bag on one hand aims at highlighting the importance of education.

The backpack is also a metaphor for the very idea of travelling, exploring new horizons and growing strong and independent.

Thus, connecting with the bus station itself.
